WRAP & GRIP TACKLE SLED

£2,500.00

The Wrap & Grip Tackle Sled is part of the GSI Performance Technical Training Range and can be used in isolation or as part of the full system of products. This piece of equipment has been specifically designed to isolate the training effect relating to initial contact and leg-drive within the tackle.

The Wrap & Grip Tackle Sled has been specifically designed on runners so that it can be used on grass or on artificial surfaces. The contact pad is the same design as the GSI Performance Wrap + Grip tackle bags, so there is a cross-over on coaching technique from sled to bags. The contact pad can be set at three different angles so it challenges the player to enter at different attack angles and stay in the contact point, and also drive the sled dynamically. The unique design of the sled head is the connection between the contact pad and the sled base, which is connected by bungees – this design creates a spring-load in the contact pad, so if the player does not chase their feet within the collision, the pad forces the player backwards.

KEY COACHING POINTS
  • The Wrap & Grip Tackle Sled has been designed with the sole purpose of isolating the skill of contact entry and dynamic leg drive into and through the tackle. The player will still have to carry out accurate initial shoulder contact, wrap and grip techniques on the sleds contact pad, and will have to drop his/her body height as they approach the sled. The player must then stay in the initial contact point, because depending on the contact pad angle there will be a degree of difficulty within the exercise. With this training aid the tackle technique of connection and acceleration can be practised in a controlled safe environment before going “live”.
  • The Wrap & Grip Tackle Sled contact pad sits at three specific angles on the front of the sled which forces the player to drop their height and attack the pad from varying angles. The player must work on staying in the contact point and chasing their feet throughout. If the player does not keep pressure on the contact head, it will spring back and put pressure on the player. The attacking player must use good technique and use head movement, arm wrap and grip to stay strong through the collision.
  • The Wrap & Grip Tackle Sled isolates leg drive and leg speed within the collision. The contact pad sits at a specific angle to allow for clear knee lift and leg drive. The player can vary their collision entry height on the pad to either impact through the machine or to leg drive and hold, resulting in a strong finishing position.
  • Once the player has made initial contact, they can make a choice on different types of hand placement around the pad. The contact pad is the same design as the GSI Performance Wrap + Grip tackle bag range, thus creating a cross-over between training aids.
  • The Wrap & Grip Tackle Sled weighs 90kg. Olympic weight plates can be added to increase weight at the contact pad end of machine, thus replicating average weight of opposition. Plates fit onto specific weight plate fitting.
  • The base runners on the sled are a smooth powder coated finish so that the sled can be used on synthetic pitches (3G and Astro) as well as grass.
